Exposition : Yvonne Jean-Haffen, de l’ombre à la lumière
The temporary exhibition at the Maison-musée Yvonne Jean-Haffen accompanies the publication of Geneviève Haroche-Bouzinac?s biography of the Dinan artist: Yvonne Jean-Haffen, de l?ombre à la lumière (Flammarion, March 2026). Together, the book and exhibition retrace the career of a woman artist whose life and work span the twentieth century, between Paris and Brittany.
Through a selection of emblematic works, photographs, archives and personal objects, the Dinan exhibition highlights the major stages in the artist?s career: her Parisian beginnings, her collaborations with painter Mathurin Méheut, her decorations for Messageries maritimes liners, then her anchorage in Brittany, in Dinan. The exhibition also evokes his travels, his decorative projects and his role in promoting Mathurin Méheut?s work, testifying to a life dedicated to art in all its forms.
From the shadows to the light, Yvonne Jean-Haffen?s career illustrates the slow conquest of female recognition in the art world, and the way in which a discreet yet determined artist carved out a place for herself in Brittany?s art history.
Good to know! From April 4, 2026 to January 3, 2027, the Musée Mathurin-Méheut in Lamballe is staging a temporary exhibition comparing two worlds, that of Mathurin Méheut and that of his elder brother, Henri Rivière. These two viewpoints, sometimes convergent but more often complementary, share a common attraction for Japanese art. "Regards japonisants en Bretagne" will be on view until January 3, 2027. Reduced admission to the Musée Mathurin Méheut on presentation of your entrance ticket to the Musée Yvonne Jean-Haffen.
