Spectacle - Akutuk Origins
The Re-Bonjour! events are musical experiences that take place in unusual locations. This one features Akutuk, the interplay between air, water and the body. This ancestral skill from Central Africa is a repertoire of bare-handed aquatic percussion and song, handed down through generations of women.
From its very beginnings, Akutuk is a unique repertoire of bare-handed aquatic percussion and song, handed down from generation to generation of women in Central Africa. It is an interplay between air, water and the body. This ancestral art pays tribute to the beneficial effects of nature?s elements. A strictly feminine activity, Akutuk Origins rehabilitates a cultural heritage whose music was almost silenced.
Our relationship with water has changed over time. Loïs Zongo, the project?s driving force, mobilizes her resources by uniting the women of her native village to revive musical practices that have fallen into disuse, and to make this heritage visible once again in the public arena.
The suspended atmospheres and liquid melodies remind us of our first amniotic sound orchestra, the root and foundation of our emotions! A rare and unique moment.
