Le Grand Rocher
Both a natural and an archaeological site, this 60-hectare area combines geology, history, legend and special biodiversity.
The 84 m high rocky promontory offers a 180° panorama of the Bay of Saint-Efflam. From up there, look out for the mid-way cross, reinstalled in 1993. This cross, located midway between the bell towers of Saint-Michel-en-Grève and Saint-Efflam, served as a landmark for travellers crossing the bay in a straight line.
Many stories have been told about this land of legends... Legends that have found real foundations, thanks to various excavations that have revealed the existence of an ancient Gallic cemetery, as well as the presence of Roman tiles.
As you climb the slopes or follow the arched path through the wooded massif, you'll observe a distinctive flora. The addition of limestone sand to an acid soil has resulted in a diversity of species not often found in Brittany. Wait until nightfall to watch the flight of bats that have found refuge in a cave.
