📍 Saint-Gilles-Vieux-Marché
Vallée et gorges de Poulancre
Classified as a Natura 2000 site for the richness of its fauna and flora, the Poulancre valley has been carved by the stream of the same name, forming a narrow gorge in Devonian indurated schists. As you reach the steep summits, a wide panorama opens out onto the pond of Poulancre and Saint Gilles Vieux Marché, a 4 flower village
Nearby, the pond of La Martyre, is a water reservoir created in the Middle Ages and then forming an integral part, with the pond of Poulancre, of a steel complex. In the 17th and 18th centuries, forges produced nails, which were marketed throughout Europe.
