Réserve Naturelle Régionale des landes, prairies et étangs de Plounérin

This 160 ha area represents a unique natural heritage inherited from the Breton farming system at the beginning of the last century. Its value is explained both by the physical conditions of the environment (humidity, poor soils, acidity) and by human activities (grazing, mowing, afforestation, etc.).

Successive inventories and registrations culminated in 2016 with the site being classified as a Regional Nature Reserve. The originality of the site lies in the fact that 36% of its owners are public and 64% private. The latter have all volunteered to take part in a collaborative development project. The aim is to protect the natural heritage, while maintaining human activities compatible with the conservation of the mosaic of habitats.

A variety of environments means a wealth of flora and fauna. To date, 1,200 plant and animal species have been inventoried, some of them rare or protected.

Another special feature of the reserve is its fragmentation into 98 non-contiguous parcels. This fragmented perimeter is just one step in a global, long-term process.
