La voie verte V6 - ancienne voie ferrée

The Voie Verte V6 follows the route of the old Carhaix - Saint-Méen-le-Grand railroad line through the south of the Côtes d?Armor region. It passes through forests and moors, and passes by chapels and shrines. At Bon Repos Abbey, the route takes the Nantes-Brest Canal for a further 10 km, before resuming its faithful rail route to Finistère.

At the end of the 19th century, inland Brittany was an isolated land. Trains were being developed throughout France, and the Canal de Nantes à Brest was struggling to be completed.

By dint of tenacity and persuasion on the part of local councillors demanding the right to development to boost the local economy, a railway line was promised in 1885. From Carhaix to Saint Meen Le Grand, via Maël-Carhaix, Rostrenen, Gouarec and Bon-Repos, the line was built in stages over a period of thirty long years, until 1907.

Thanks to a system of gauge reduction, the tortuous valleys of Inner Brittany and their curves were followed, not without difficulty. Significant freight and passenger traffic began to develop, until the 1930s, when more and more roads were built, gradually leading to disaffection.
