La forêt de Beaucours

The Beaucours communal forest, on the heights of Saint Nicolas du Pélem, is easy to explore thanks to its many footpaths. In places, you'll be able to make out traces of the life of the charcoal burners who used to populate this wood for the duration of an operation.

The area is named after the stream and pond at its center, which attracts otters and birds such as herons. The banks of the stream have been designated as a haven for the European otter, to encourage its settlement. Many birds, such as herons, can also be seen here.

The pond is also adorned with clumps of Osmonde Ryale, a majestic fern and protected species. Quite common in western France, it is rather rare in other regions and threatened by the numerous hydraulic works aimed at draining wetlands, Osmonde?s preferred habitat.

The remains just a few meters from the pond correspond to an ancient château, once owned by the Count of Beaucours.

Popular with anglers as a trout fishery, it is necessary to pay an additional fee to your usual fishing card to fish here.

There are several intersecting paths through the forest. One of them leads to the Rocher de Guingamp, an imposing rock that once sheltered resistance fighters.
