Ile de la Comtesse

Ile de la Comtesse has had many owners, including several countesses from whom it takes its name. One of these owners is remembered for her irascible and vindictive character: the Comtesse Tranchant des Thuilais, who appropriated the beach surrounding the island and chased away anyone who came near it! The island also belonged to the family of Eugène Rimmel, the famous perfumer, who grew rare plant essences here. Since 1975, the island has been owned by the commune. A small pebble of ruins and greenery, anyone can venture there at low tide.
