Hêtre de Kervinihy

Its sinuous branches and imposing dimensions (25 m high, 20 m span) make it an astonishing beech. The tree trunk, scarified by lovers, adds a certain romanticism. The depth and importance of the dendroglyphs, with evocative texts and motifs such as initials or hearts engraved all over the bark of its trunk, bear witness to sentimental confessions, some of them ancient.

Also noteworthy is the tree's impressive root system, which follows an ancient embankment.

Several legends are associated with the tree. Situated on a high, initially treeless spot, it is said to have served as a watering hole for fishermen from Locquémeau, some fifteen kilometers away. This would have enabled them to find their way back to the harbour safely.

More likely, it served as a landmark in the Trégorroise countryside, as it is situated on one of the heights of Le Vieux Marché at 135 m. The surrounding site was once a church property and a place of asylum for those fleeing seigneurial justice. Its age is estimated at between 150 and 350 years.

Parking des sept saints (2 km away): start of 4.5 km treasure hunt, access to 14 km hiking loop and Mon Tro Breizh hiking trail.
